The Scallywag Mine, Death Valley, California

The Scallywag Mine is neither a borax, talc, gold, or silver mine for which Death Valley mining is famous for.
It took us two hiking trips to the Scallywag mine before we were finally able to hike up the canyon and make it to the mines perched high above on the vertical walls of this forgotten canyon.
On our first hike up the canyon we found a tram station, ore cars partially buried in the canyon floor, and 2 dry falls up the canyon. With no ropes with us, we were stopped by the 2nd dry falls in 2003. We returned in 2004 better prepared with some rope, harnesses, and friends who make a 5.10 climb look like a piece of cake.

Let's explore the Scallywag Mine
