Introducing Inyo County's first planned community; Reilly. This gated community features
lovely townhomes and community horse stables, tennis courts, wilderness trails, and a view
of the Valley to die for.
Reilly existed for a short time around the years of 1883 and 1884. The town is in
the heart of the Sherman Mining District which most likely got it's name from the proposed
1875 community of Sherman Town, which was located near some property owned by Senators
Jones and Stewart. A post office existed here for 10 months from Jan. 22, 1883 to Oct. 15,
1883. The only postmaster was a fellow by the name of R.C. Spear. After leaving the
thriving metropolis of Reilly he showed up again in 1899 as a miner and proud owner of a
steam-powered arrastra in the Beveridge mining district. |
